Canet Valette - Une et Mille Nuits
Saint-Chinian |
20% Carignan, 20% Grenache, 20% Shiraz, 20% Mourvèdre, 20% Cinsault |
2002 |
$29.50 |
This is a wonderfully soft, fruity, easy-to-drink red that has become a favourite of ours. It is a red-purple, almost black. You can taste red fruits and spices with a hint of licorice. This is a well balanced wine with a long finish and silky tannins. It’s ready to drink now. We agree with our French partners that at this price, this wine is a small jewel! |
Château de Miremont - L'Anti Bémol 2002 - Minervois |
Carignan, Grenache, Shiraz |
2002 |
$22.00 |
This is a BIG wine. Not for the faint of heart at all. It’s very different from our big reds, particularly in that tit is not intensely fruit driven although you can detect hints of prune and a red-fruits’ nose. This is a powerful drop so decant before drinking. |
Château La Voulte Gasparet - Réservée - Corbières |
Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre |
2003 |
$27.00 |
After sharing a bottle of this over a leg of lamb, we are firm converts. It’s not a big fruity wine like many of the reds we are used to in Australia. Rather it is much more refined and subtle. It has a lovely soft mouth feel. Beautiful length. Decant before drinking. Drink now. |

Gros manseng |
2005 |
$23.50 |
Gros manseng is a grape we don’t hear much of in Australia. If you are into chardonnays then you will enjoy this wine. It has a lively nose with hints of quince and citrus fruits. You can also taste honey before a fresh, acid finish. The closest we come to describing it is that it is like a slightly sweet, oaked Aussie chardonnay. |
Domaine Berthoumieu - Haute Tradition
Madiran |
55% Tannat, 35% Cabernet, 10% Fer-Servadou |
2002 |
$25.50 |
This wine is over 50% tannat grapes, which are grown mainly in the south of France. They produce a wine that is high in tannins and in alcohol. A lot of wines made from tannat age well. This wine is no exception. It is softened with the addition of cabernet and fer-servadou and you can taste blackcurrant, cherry and licorice but it is still a mouthful. Drink now but can also be cellared for several years. |
Domaine Rotier - Renaissance Rouge Gaillac |
40% Shiraz
15% Duras
20% Braucol, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon |
2002 |
$27.00 |
This wine is recommended by our French partners. It’s a deep purple colour and has a nose reminiscent of cherries, black currants, licorice and spices and hints of smoke and roasted coffee. Smooth tannins. |
